Ory is a fierce and tireless advocate, always striving to achieve the best possible outcome for the client. Although his practice is typically referred to as “litigation”, he prefers the phrase “dispute resolution” since there are several means to reach a desired end, many of which never involve federal or state court. The subject matter of disputes Ory has handled run the gamut of tort and contract law and include soft IP infringement (copyright, trademark, trade secrets, etc.), unfair competition, real estate, employment, business dissolution, fiduciary breaches, fraud, negligence (including professional negligence), publicity and privacy rights, and even some personal injury. As an outgrowth of litigation, Ory also handles post-trial matters, including appeals to the California Courts of Appeal and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and writ petitions to the higher courts. In addition to his dispute resolution practice, Ory provides consultation and advice on general intellectual property and contract matters in the live entertainment industry. He has also been trained and certified as a mediator, and is available to mediate legal disputes. Ory’s work is informed by his substantial prior business experience in the internet, alcoholic beverage distribution and entertainment industries.
